Thinking about to rent own server

#1 Post by Rotacak » Sat Sep 18, 2010 9:12 pm

I can rent server for about 80$ per 3 months:

Intel Atom, 2x1.66GHz (HT) , 2GB RAM, 320GB
SSH/Telnet or RDP/VNC
20Mbps (1:20)

Problem is:
1) its too cheap :) So it is suspicious.
2) i am not sure if I want to spend all these money for testing run, because I dont need this server for anything else than tremulous.

Question:
Is there anyone who maybe want to share/pay this server with me (with access to server) for first three months and then... we will see?

1) Are you sure you are getting a private server, not a virtual private server? In case of VPS - they usually write the 100% characteristics but offer you 10-20% of the CPU/RAM for that price.
2) http://secure.hostgator.com/forward.php ... DgodLzBeGw
See the level 1 price and characteristics. I think it is enough for tremulous and costs pretty cheap too.

Another idea: try googling some MMORPG emulator forums and offering your server for some price as a hosting for that emulators. There are crowds of people willing to make their Lineage/WOW server that have no hosting and are limited on money.

Another idea: RAMOS will need some hosting when he finishes his game. You can sell it to him on your server xD

quarko: yes, its not virtual server but whole server. Offering it for others games can be good idea, but only if all will be ok, not for start.

ramos: do you have any mmo engine?

Yes, but it is enough to run 10 tremulous servers on it.

Nice offer, could maybe help you but I'm on fixed money balance now. >_>
Need to get a nice keyboard, I'll see about if I'll have enough money later.
