It's UBP gameplay, 2 good players can take whole team.

Nod and me rushed base, gf.
True, you was quite a pain in the ass (if I can put it this way ;-)), always sneaking around our base with a luci or something.

But I think the point is that the game lasted for almost 3 hours and IMHO humans could have won the game in 1 or 2 rush waves, if they attacked all at once.

(The N7 server has a problem that I run it on a slower computer and even though the net connection is quite good, often it's not enough. So it lags a lot and people eventually leave.)
Well, that was nod, i sawwed base, but you dc'ed.

I was Origami Llamaduck :D
PS: CHeck PM nalf.

CU|ams once suggested to create a paid server. Perhaps just with a low fee, like $5/year would do. Only decent players who already know the game would want to join, and it would solve other problems too, like deconers, avoiding bans or otherwise bad behavior. It would also provide funds necessary for a proper hosting. The question is: would there be enough people willing to join?

(Or it could be a public server, but with some limits for those who don't pay. Any suggestions for such limits?)

We could rent a server, its not so expensive AFAIK, only needs to be able to run .exe sine Trem is low ram/cpu using.

EDIT: Not sure if I could pay, would need to ask my parents, but think they will agree since 5$/year is cheap.

Donating €30/y if we host Nalf's mods on uber server. (no joke)

Donatin €5/y if we host normal tremulous server on uber server.

Nalf's mods wont be needed if people wont camp, we should only keep granger dance and human rotation, because they are awesome :)

^Thats the whole problem.
They will camp without nalfs mods.

Thats why i want to donate so much.

PS: €50 if it wears N7 tag like now.

(Let's create an auction :D - i know nobody bids higher then me...)

If we rent a server, we are going to make it private or deny some stuff to non-payers = no need for the mods

That's not completely true. Trem is memory inexpensive, but it can become cpu expensive if there are too many buildings. It happens on N7 server sometimes with a lot of buildings and players that the server is dying out of CPU exhaustion. But I agree CPU is not a major limit. The most important thing is a good network connectivity.

Also we don't need EXE, it's much better to run it under Linux, which is what most virtual hostings provide.

Ah yes, forgot the linux variant. Also Linux servers are cheaper, atleast in Cro. Well we can set BP to 500, dont think we need more since wont be alot of ret/acid/hive/tesla spammers if we do it private/non-payers have denied building rights or something 2nd

When we go for pro, we will ofcourse do public but better levels.

Or security...
Nalf can probably make something like:

>30M, RC Destroyed by XX SAW
/ban 1d XX Destroyed RC with SAW
/Revert

WOuld be great but dont ban for example luc, because luci splash could accidentaly kill rc. Even though one day of ban is not much

Just check for:
Basenade 3+ buildings,
Saw,
Luci damage +350,
Rifle damage +250,
Etc etc.

RC has great health, so sufficient damage by team weapons will get them banned.
DUnno if it's possible.

Sure, such scriptable auto-bans could be implemented. Another solution would be to forbid non-payers building, and perhaps also killing a friendly building. And if a paying player decons, he simply loses his subscription and his payment is forfeited.
Lanac wrote:If we rent a server, we are going to make it private or deny some stuff to non-payers = no need for the mods
I disagree on that. First, you cannot guarantee that payers won't camp. As Gunther wrote, new players tend to camp because they die as soon as they get out of their base (I know that well :-)). Also the game sort of motivates humans to camp because they're so dependent on their structures. So if we want to prevent that, the game need to be changed somehow.

And second, Trem is very well balanced, but for regular games. It's unbalanced on UBP (or with a lot of UBP).

Some of the mods on N7 are experimental and there is no need to keep them, but I think if we want to keep UBP-like gameplay and prevent camping, there is need for modifications.
