My favorite OS is Linux (especially Ubuntu, it's the only one I could install properly :P). I prefer systems that:
- are free (both price and freedom),
- work
- don't have shitload of bugs
- are safe
- run on over 9000 different cpu architectures
- have over 9000 different distributions
- have some software after installation
- have a terminal that supports more than "format c:" and "ipconfig"
- have pre-installed drivers for nearly all devices (Ubuntu detected and configured my printer and scanner, all three audiocards, mobile phone as a pendrive, as a camera and as a 3G modem and both webcams. None of them worked on Windows without additional drivers.)
- have text-only mode available after pressing one key combination (very useful when Minecraft freezes)
- update themselves and all their programs automatically
Also known as the invisible man.

Did a little correcting in topic name and poll
The nodding of the head once to symbolize a greeting, cuz we white folk to damn lazy to open our mouths and speak up. Nods are also easier to shake off than a flase "hello".
"Person nods at you", or your direction, "you nod back"

It's GNU/Linux (unless you're Mark Shuttleworth), assuming a GNU-based userland. :P
