[WIP] Mapping with Netradiant - Basics and FAQ

#1 Post by Lancer » Thu May 10, 2012 12:48 pm

Hey guys,

As we all know, there arn't any good map makers for tremulous anymore.
So i've made a FAQ for Netradiant so you can start making your own maps!

This guide is tweaked for WINDOWS!

First of all, you will need netradiant, there is no installer, so place the map somewhere you prefer.

Download Netradiant:
http://ingar.satgnu.net/gtkradiant/index.html#download

After extraction, download the entities pack:
Mirror #1: http://ingar.satgnu.net/gtkradiant/file ... upport.zip

Mirror #2: Coming Soon

When you've downloaded it, unzip the archive in the base directory of your Tremulous installation, for example, C:\Program Files\Tremulous\base.
The file data-radiant-1.1.0.pk3 should be in the same directory as the file data-1.1.0.pk3.

Open the new netradiant directory. Click on radiant.exe to start the editor.

Tutorials (sorted by difficulty):

Please feel free to ask any questions, i'm not very good at it myself, but i'll try to help you and update this guide sometime.

I have a probbbbbllleeemmmm
:(

When I try to compile map, it says this:

http://pastebin.com/ndpdfhTd

I was noob; friend of mine said to never ever ever ever click the "Tree Planter" button in the top left corner, but as I said, I was nooby and adventurous. :D
I "planted" a "tree", then it didn't actually do anything. >_>
So I deleted the "tree" and tried to compile and it gave me the ^above^ error.

Means ur nab.

That, or your map has leaked or the center of your map lies in void.

There aren't any leaks in my map..
>_>
It tells you if you have leaks remember? Mine does anyway.

If you scroll to bottom of pastebin, it says "ERROR--Backwards tree volume"

That's whole point of post; map won't compile because I was noob and planted a "tree" and was wondering how to get rid of it. I've deleted the "tree", still no luck

Just upload the map somewhere and link it here. It's easier to find the fix for you that way.

I think q3map2 meant the bsp tree. That would make much more sense.

And the problem is that your map's origin (the (0,0,0) point) is either outside of the map or it's stuck in some geometry.
